Poor Culture, an inclusive faith experience, proposes to host a Pop-Up Worship Service in Washington, D.C., specifically tailored for the queer community and in the Black church tradition. This initiative is designed to provide a safe, affirming, and spiritually enriching environment for individuals often marginalized within traditional religious settings.
Background and Rationale
Zero of the seven traditional Black church denominations are inclusive and affirming. Recent studies have shown that inclusivity in worship can significantly impact mental, physical, and holistic health positively, especially in marginalized communities. For example, affirming religious environments has been linked to lower rates of psychological stress and higher levels of personal well-being among LGBTQ+ individuals.
Objective
The PC Pop-Up Worship Experience aims to:
Offer a fully inclusive and affirming worship service for the Black queer community in D.C.
Address and promote mental, physical, and holistic health through spiritual support and community engagement.
Create a replicable model of inclusive worship that can be introduced to other communities.

Proposed Date & Time : Sunday, June 30, 2024 (from 5-7 PM)
Location: Indoor venue in Washington, D.C., conducive to worship and large gatherings.
Activities: Live music, sermon, testimonials, drag performance, dance performance.
Funding Request
